Importing Posts from WordPress to WordPress

I have just had great success importing posts from another WordPress installation into this one. The research took more time than the import/export! For those who are interested in trying the same I recommend exporting to Movable Type format via WordPress Export 0.3 by Eric Pierce and then importing the former WordPress posts as MovableType posts via your import-mt.php (included in your wp-admin directory). The thought of merging databases made my head spin so I’m glad I avoided that option. I have a bit of clean up to do (looks like private posts were imported as drafts), but for a site the scale of mine, this is no big deal.

Argh. Well, it wasn’t as tidy an import as I would have hoped. Odd stuff has happened to the comments — not horrible, but unfortunate. Very few people comment on my stuff, so I’m sad that I’ve lost a good portion of those few! :( Anyway, now the plan is to delete the posts off of the other site and make it strictly professional/portfolio oriented. I’ll have to rework how the home page works since, essentially, I won’t have “Journal” content anymore. Hm. I have to think about how to work this…but not tonight. Mr. Slakethirst is home and needs my attention. :)

In the meantime, don’t be surprised if you come across broken images or other oddness while rifling through the archives.

Another odd thing, I’m getting emails from the WordPress admin tool asking me to moderate comments for *this* website when the comments themselves are posts from the *other* website… why would that be happening! Strange…
